Project - Ranch in South Texas. Bathroom vanity and tub with a shou sugi ban finish. The Shou sugi ban finish is a Japanese technique. We use a yellow cypress and burn it to get the alligatoring look to the grain. Then it is finished with a marine varnish.

From storage considerations to handling routine family meals, a well built kitchen forever feeds inspiration.
SK Ranch - Lake | Flato Architect
The kitchen has an island finished with a special stain on white oak. Cabinet doors are made from blackened steel frames holding satine glass panels and shelving finished with a seed-pearl white lacquer. Both the cabinet frames and the vent-a-hood were constructed in coordination with RCF by Cactus Max Fine Metal Artwork of San Antonio. Project won the Texas State Architects Design Award for 2014.

Desk and bookcase. The bookcase is made of Ebonized Walnut and blackened steel. The back of the bookcase is seed pearl lacquer. The library ladder was custom made by Kirby Sheet Metal and we blackened the steel. The wall panels are horsehair.
